BallynureA small beautiful village in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

The DRD proposes to dual the A8 between the Hillhead Road roundabout and the Ballyrickard road.  The Dept will publish an environmental statement ref vesting orders etc. in local papers between 19th and 28th january 2011.

After 5 days of snow, temperatures dropped even further last night down to -16°c and there is no likelyhood of a thaw until sunday. Brrrrrr!

Overnight and today saw the heaviest fall of snow in Northern Ireland for 25 years. Ballynure had in or around 7″ of snow which is due to remain for most of the weekend. The Castle road was particularly bad for cars to get up. See the Gallery for pictures round and about the village

Police in D District are advising motorists to be mindful of the security of their vehicles during the winter months.

In this current cold spell motorists’, in an effort to de-ice their vehicles or just to get them warmed up for thier journey , have a tendency to switch the engine on and leave the vehicles running. This is a gift to nearby opportunistic thieves who can simply step into the vehicle and drive off.

While it is good practice that all windows should be thoroughly thawed and cleared before driving Police would advise motorists to sit in the vehicle for the few minutes it takes to clear windows and heat the interior. Drivers should not switch their engines on and get out to scrape the exterior of their vehicles as cheeky thieves will also take this opportunity even though the owners are close by.

There will be the usual short Royal British Legion Remembrance Ceremony at the War Memorial in Ballynure at 3.00pm next Sunday, November 14^th.  Everyone is welcome and we would like to encourage more people to attend this very important opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifices that have been and continue to be made by so many for the safety of the country.

Who are your sporting heroes?

Newtownabbey Borough Council are holding an exhibition at ‘The Mill’ of Ulster Sporting Legends. The exhibition is open 10am-4pm weekdays and 12md-3pm on Saturdays with a late night on Wednesdays. Admission is FREE.

The Band at the Village fair 2010

This years Village Fair was a lovely occasion with a huge number of visitors. The sun shone brightly on everyone and the village was a hive of activity from the ‘Duck Derby’ to the Tug-o-war.  Everyone had a great time.
